Ship times of most basketball goal retailers increased dramatically over the holiday season as we saw ship dates move out to over 2 weeks (plus shipping time). It looks like most basketball hoop manufactures have caught up and suppliers have replenished their stock as ship times have come down dramatically. Pro Dunk Hoops still offers the best basketball goal shipping service available with their next day ship out policy.

Goalsetter is having issues. They recently lost two huge retailers including Dick’s Sporting Goods and Dunham’s Sports which dropped the extreme and signature adjustable basketball goal lines from their online catalog. To be fair, Dick’s Sporting Goods also dropped [removed by request] and Lifetime’s 79960 (60 inch acrylic backboard). Dick’s went from a catalog size of 72 in-ground adjustable basketball goals to 57. I’m not certain what the reasons behind this move are but one thing is for sure. Goalsetter is loosing exposure and will eventually start to hemorrhage market share. Some possible reasons behind this are below (pure conjecture).
- Goalsetter increased wholesale price
- Competitors lowered wholesale price
- Goalsetter quality/service derogation
- Exclusive deals with competing manufacturers
- Goalsetter wants to take a more direct online marketing strategy
- Physical vendors are getting pissy about online sales digging into their sales volume

I found this announcement on Competitive Edge which is a Mammoth basketball goal reseller.“Mammoth 98872 has been discontinued by the manufacturer and replaced by the new Tempered Glass Mammoth 98874″
The specs on the new basketball hoop (98874) are as follows:
- Backboard: 72 inches x 42 inches x .31 inches tempered glass
- Extension Arm: 4 Feet
- Pole Size: 6 Inches x 6 Inches
- Adjustable: 7.5 Feet to 10 Feet
I believe the old system (98872) had an acrylic (not tempered glass) backboard the same size although i cannot find the acrylic board thickness. They are charging $400.00 more* for their new system. This seems like a lot more for a tempered glass upgrade to me. Also, the tempered glass backboard is thinner than the industry standard 3/8 inch. This reduces the weight causing the basketball goal system not to play as well as other basketball hoops on the market. Pole and gusset padding is not included with Mammoth basketball systems. Pole padding will cost you an extra $78.99* while gusset padding is not offered.

Dick’s Sporting Goods has made huge price shifts today. They increased the price of the [removed by request] Pro Glass basketball goal by $300.00 and increased the price of many others by $100.00. I could not find a real pattern on size, price or brand that seemed to hold up. I assume that these price shifts had to do with the holiday season and had some market research behind them. If not, they could be an indication of fluctuating manufacturer pricing. Overall it looks like [Manufacturer Removed] are the only ones that consistently came down in price. Overall, other brands including [removed by request], Barbarian and Goalsetter all went up in price.

Barbarian Basketball Systems representatives have been claiming that Chinese manufactured basketball systems have poor tempered glass backboards. This is simply an untrue statement. These allegations are unsubstantiated. Barbarian also claims to have “The lowest height on any goal available” at 5.5 feet while several other basketball hoops including the Pro Dunk basketball systems will adjust down to 5 feet.

I’m having some trouble finding the Doman Dominator basketball goals around reseller sites. JumpUSA and BBallGoals seem to have removed the products from their site. I checked the Doman site and it’s still up so i can only assume they have not closed up shop. The Dominator is a relatively new basketball goal that uses a unique design that claims to be “cleaner” to raise and lower the backboard to the desired height. As an alternative to the Dominator, check out Hoops height adjustable systems here.

Ship lead times keep extending while some products are just not available anymore. Companies like Schutt are not shipping goals for 2 to 3 weeks while other companies extend their lead times 2 or 3 more days. Hoops and Pro Dunk Hoops on the other hand still have the ability to ship your basketball system out next day.
I don’t think anybody can guarantee to have your system shipped to you by Christmas anymore as freight companies do not offer much in the way of expedite service (like other light carriers). We wish a merry Christmas and great driveway basketball fun this holiday season while the kids are home and everybody is on vacation!

The long extension arm was a plus for this system. Pro Dunk Hoops carriers the Pro Dunk Diamond system which has a 5 foot extension arm if you are in the market and can’t find this system anymore. The 1/8 inch thick acrylic sheet was a definite downside to this system. We find that the 1/2 inch acrylic boards are needed to get anywhere close to the same response as tempered glass. The Diamond basketball goal comes with a tempered glass backboard.

[removed by request], manufacturer of the popular [removed by request] basketball goals might be discontinuing their [removed by request] brand of equipment. I was doing some research over at mvphoops and noticed that the [removed by request] goals had disappeared. I gave them a call and a few hours later they called telling me that [removed by request] has gotten rid of them. This is only a rumor because the [removed by request] product page is still on the corporate [removed by request] web site and have seen no official press release on the issue.
