Backboard Material

Douglas does not offer tempered glass on their competitor line of basketball goals. Hoops has all backboard sizes available in gym quality tempered glass. The glass backboards have several advantages over the softer acrylic backboards including durability and better play. The tempered glass will stay crystal clear for the life of the basketball system (like a car windshield) where as an acrylic boards get cloudy over time because the acrylic scratches much easier. The glass backboard is four times as heavy which gives the system much more stability improving play.

Stability

The Douglas Competitor 56 (the top of the line Douglas basketball hoop) has a 5' extension arm as does the Pro Dunk Diamond. A lot more pressure is put onto the pole with the unconventional 5' extension arm. Hoops has increased its pole size (8" x 8") to support the added torque where as the Douglas system has stayed with the smaller 6" square pole. The makes the Pro Dunk system much more stable and offer better play.

Adjustable

The Douglas Competitor basketball systems adjust down to 7.5'. This is too high for many younger players. Hoops systems adjust all the way down to 5' making it perfect for younger players while still providing a superior playing experience for the most demanding players.

Safety

Hoops puts extensive effort into making the playing experience as safe as possible. All Pro Dunk systems come with full padding sets worth more than $300.00! This includes backboard padding to prevent the elite dunking players from injuring their head. It also includes pole and gusset padding. These pieces prevent players from tripping or falling on the gussets or pier bolts. It also prevents players from injuring themselves if they were to hit the pole while driving in hard for a lay-up. Douglas does not offer any of these safety features with their goals.
